About
Where Common came from, how it works, and why it looks like this.
The idea
Common started as a game people play in conversation: someone names two clubs, everyone else races to find a player who turned out for both.
Digital versions existed, but most either used thin data or could not be played head to head. So we built our own.
How it works
The game is a single HTML file. No server, no account, no install. Open it in a browser and play.
Answer validation uses Transfermarkt data. A local backup database covers connection failures, but when it is used the game says so on screen, because its accuracy is lower than the primary source.
Online play uses a direct browser-to-browser connection. No server sits in the middle of a match.
Data accuracy
The local database was assembled from public sources and contains errors. We clean them continuously.
If you hit an answer that was wrongly accepted or unfairly rejected, tell us. Those reports are the fastest route to fixing the data.
Privacy
The game asks for no account and collects no personal data. See the privacy policy for detail.
Independent project
Common is not affiliated with any club, league, or with Transfermarkt. Club and player names are used for identification only.
